In 2001, I had completed a remodel of an old house and moved in. Almost immediately, I became very ill. It took four months of being sick and going to several different doctors before someone suggested I send someone under our house to take a look around. Unfortunately, the crawl space was full of mold. David came highly recommended and with one call was almost instantly there to get me educated, give me advice on how to protect my family, give recommendations for remediation and construction improvements, provide rush results -- all with incredible professionalism.
Throughout what was a very scary time for me, David was the one person in the midst of multitudes of doctors, contractors, lawyers, and inspectors whose advice I relied upon and trusted. I felt comfortable with him discussing the house issues with all of those people at a time when I found doing so overwhelming.
When I called David after three years to ask him to inspect two potential homes for me, he showed who he truly is: within 24 hours he arrived at the houses, inspected them, rushed the results, spoke with realtors on my behalf, answered a million of my questions enabling me to make informed decisions, and even checked back in with me to see how the new environment is treating me.

Thanks so much for the great job you did. Not only do we have the peace-of-mind of knowing our house is safe, but you gave us great advice on how to keep it safe and keep damage and/or hazards from reoccurring. This was money well-spent. I would like to take a few minutes and express our deep appreciation for your invaluable expertise and services you provided at a very difficult time for us. I am referring to your testing and reports from the mold related problems that we discovered at our house from a burst hot water pipe. Now that we have moved back in our house, please accept our entire family's gratitude for your and your staff's hard work to better characterize the nature of the serious issue, as well as, the capable testing after the mold remediation work was done.
The whole area of dangers from mold appears to be emerging and still not well understood. I also suspect a lot of people are getting into this business of characterizing the risks, outlining the necessary remediation required, and testing for safe completion of the needed work. It is hard to know who are the dependable people in this field. Judging from the quality of the technical work you did, your objective stand with the contractors involved and the insurance company, your responsiveness to let us know in plain language what was happening and what should be done, all indicated to me and my wife that you are providing genuine value. Your services are crucial as they help determine the scope of work as more of the pieces of the puzzle and data become available.
Once again, thanks for a very objective assessment of the situation and an outline of the remediation needed. We appreciated your reports, and especially, the final one, that said we can return to our home and live safely from the mold condition that has been eliminated.

Dave Carls of Safe Environments saved my life. I'm not kidding.
Exactly one year ago today, Dave came to my home at my request to look for the source of a persistent odor. What he discovered was far worse than a smell. He found stachybotrys, penicillium and aspergillis. That's mold.
I had been very ill. I thought it was the flu, but it went on and on for months. It also had other symptoms that I couldn't figure out like lack of ability to concentrate, poor memory, even inability to speak fluently. Anyway, I was miserable and didn't know why.
Dave immediately called me when the mold samples were tested (two days later) and told me to open the windows and doors. The stachybotrys was particularly toxic and very harmful to people with asthma, mold allergies or compromised immune systems. I knew I was allergic to molds, but had no idea such a thing existed in my home. I did as Dave suggested and, miraculously, I was cured. It really was that dramatic. The mold in the air in my home was thousands of times what the normal, outside level was.
Of course, that was only the beginning of a six month struggle to remediate the situation. It involved the insurance company, several contractors, a restoration service, plastic containments, people with face masks, chemicals, huge and noisy air filtering machines, laundromats, dry cleaners and extreme patience on my part.
Through all this Dave Carls was a brick. He tested the air on numerous occasions, developed the protocol for the restoration, recommended restoration companies for me to interview, interfaced with the home owners insurance adjuster, monitored the workers' progress and gave me professional advice and encouragement throughout the protracted ordeal.
Mold infestation is so strange, so unknown to most of us. Its potential effect on our health is so great (new babies can die from this stuff!). And we don't even know it's around. I hate to think of where I would be today if I hadn't made that call to Safe Environments.
My house is now all put back together, looks great, smells great and, most of all, is safe.
