Do's and Don'ts:
Remediation of Flood Damage
Do's:
- Cut out all wet drywall.
- Demolish all wet ducts and duct wraps.
- Replace submerged furnaces.
- Consider all flood waters as contaminated with sewage.
- Remove all wet insulation.
- Wear a respirator, gloves and boots when working.
- Wash your hands before eating.
- Wipe down all wet wood members with 10% chlorox bleach.
- Dry all surfaces with fans and dehumidification if possible.
- Make sure the wood is dry before reconstruction.
- Dry out crawlspaces with fans.
- When in doubt tear it out.
Don'ts:
- Do not live in a wet environment.
- Do not bring children into a contaminated environment.
- Do not try to save upholstery that has become wet with flood waters.
- Do not try to save water damaged sheetrock, plaster, and wood paneling.
